VAWP Summer 2025 Newsletter: Fun in the Field With VAWP!

Earlier this summer, VAWP members and friends gathered for a Fun in the Field nature walk at the Cherry Orchard Bog Natural Area Preserve in Prince George County. This 354-acre preserve was originally protected due to the presence of a Coastal Plain Seepage Bog, a rare natural community. Today, it also supports a restored longleaf pine community on both sides of the bog.

Participants were treated to an incredible display of blooms, including dwarf sundew (Drosera brevifolia), the striking sandhills bog lily (Lilium pyrophilum), and white-fringed orchid (Platanthera blephariglottis) among many more.

Thank you to our VAWP members and friends who shared their photos from the day —your images below capture the beauty and diversity of this special site.
